Henry Cavill's new Netflix series The Witcher has been touted as the next big fantasy epic, with many reviewers branded it better than HBO show Game of Thrones.

The highly-anticipated drama follows 'The Witcher' Geralt of Rivia, who is "a mutated monster hunter, who struggles to find his place in a world in which people often prove more wicked than beasts."

The eight-part adaptation of Andrzej Sapkowski's bestselling series of novels and short stories also tells the stories of Princess Ciri and Yennefer of Vengerberg, demonstrating how destiny brings these three characters together.

Although the series doesn't hit the streaming service until 20th December, critics and fans have already drawn comparisons to GoT, with many reviewers saying Game of Thrones doesn't measure up to The Witcher.

"The Witcher Netflix series is gonna be better than Game of Thrones," one wrote. "If Netflix adapts The Witcher correctly, it would be even better than game of thrones."

Another penned: "The games take place after the books. The story is even better than GoT tbh. A lot of Slavic folklore fused with politics, conflict, and really good characters. The Witcher 3 is arguably the greatest game of all time. You gotta play it."

A fan shared: "Almost anything is better than GoT I don't understand hype about that show it was just over budgeted soap opera, on the other hand The Witcher looks amazing already."

"People have me believing The Witcher is gonna be better than GOT lmao have to see for myself," another lamented. "Some critics already saw The Witcher series from Netflix and it looks like it`s better than GoT. So, yeah, the hype just started in my mind."

Going on to discuss Henry, one user joked: "So... I've never really been thirsty for Henry Cavill. I mean, I get he's handsome but just haven't. I've seen a screener of the first episode of #TheWitcher and, um, I think I'm pregnant."

"#TheWitcher's cast both lead and supporting are beyond exceptional. Amazing cast all around," another said of the actors.

Last month, executive producer Tomasz Bagiński discussed how committed Henry was to his role in the fantasy series that he slept on set in his trailer.

"In Hungary, he spent weeks sleeping in a trailer right by the set," Tomasz told teleshow.wp (via ComicBook.com).

"He didn't go back to the hotel in Budapest which saved him an hour every day, but mostly it meant that during the whole time he was in the Witcher world. That doesn't happen very often. Henry is a working actor, he knows what to do and he delivers fantastic scenes."

Aside from the reviews, it appears Netflix are so taken with the series that they've green-lit a second series already.
