If you didn't spot it, the moment comes in series three, which sees Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman) investigate a car accident which is far more complicated than it seems on first glances.
Matt Bomer (White Collar) joins the action as Jamie Burns, a history teacher and father-to-be involved in a car crash that kills his long-time college friend.
Other new cast members include Chris Messina (Harley Quinn: Birds of Prey) who plays Jamie's old college friend Nick Haas, Parisa Fitz-Henley (Luke Cage) as Jamie's pregnant wife Leela Burns, Eddie Martinez (Narcos: Mexico) as detective Vic Soto and Jessica Hecht (Breaking Bad) as local artist Sonya Barzel.
In the first episode of the series, a certain location may look a strangely familiar to Gossip Girl fans.
During one tense scene, Jamie (Bomer) is seen walking out of the school where he works.
Shot from the front, the imposing building has a red brick façade, a grand flight of stone steps and wrought iron railings. Ring any (school) bells?
The grand property is in fact the same one used for the school setting of Gossip Girl, where the rich and famous of the Upper East Side sent their pampered teenagers.
In the hit noughties show, the filming location became the Constance Billard School for Girls and Saint Jude's School for Boys.
Those stone steps saw a lot of drama play out between the characters of Blair, Serena, Chuck, Nate and Dan.
Fast forward to 2020 and the building is now The Briarton School in The Sinner.
In reality, the filming location is the Synod of Bishops Russian Orthodox Church and is situated on East 93rd Street in New York.
We really time travelled back to the noughties watching that scene.
The Sinner S3 is available to watch on Netflix.
