Netflix has picked their next big project aimed at helping those who are unlucky in love, and it may sound familiar. That's because the show is actually a reboot of BBC Three's high-concept dating show Sexy Beasts.

Sexy Beasts originally aired on BBC Three in 2014, back when BBC Three still had a TV channel before moving online. The show involved disguising singletons in Hollywood-grade prosthetics before they go on a date to highlight their personality over their looks.

The elaborate masks and prosthetic make-up are removed after the singletons make a decision whether to see each other again or go their separate ways.

The make-up was seriously good and, in many ways, slightly unsettling. The singletons were disguised as a ghoulish gremlin, a spooky red devil, a blue alien, a rather unsettling pig and a tarantula's face - with all the eyeballs for good measure. Who knows what's in store for the next series because the possibilities are endless.

The show ran for just one season on BBC Three but it will now get a new lease of life, with 12 brand new episodes Deadline reports.

The new series was reportedly filmed during the coronavirus pandemic between September and November last year, with around 50 singletons from the US and UK taking part in the reboot.

Perhaps Netflix wants to capitalise on the success of The Masked Singer. The singing-competition show debuted in the UK on ITV in January 2020 and the second series premiered on Boxing Day last year.

The show sees celebrities wear elaborate costumes while performing for a panel of judges. The judges have to guess who is under the mask based on their voice and clues hidden in their performance.

The American version of The Masked Singer has also proven to be a huge success for Fox. There have been four seasons so far as well as four specials and a spin-off titled The Masked Dancer (we'll let you guess what it's about).

Netflix have yet to confirm when Sexy Beasts will return to our screens, but we'll let you know as soon as it's confirmed.
