Netflix has released the trailer for their new true crime docuseries The Innocent Man and it looks incredible.

The Innocent Man is a six part documentary focused on two Oklahoma murderers, and based on John Grisham's best-selling non-fiction book The Innocent Man: Murder And Injustice In A Small Town.

Examining two murders in the Oklahoma town of Ada in the 1980s the series will feature interviews with the victims' friends and families, local residents, lawyers, journalists, and others with perspective on the cases.

In the trailer author Grisham says: "If I wrote The Innocent Man as a novel people would not believe it," which means viewers are definitely guaranteed some chilling viewing.

Debbie Carter was murdered in 1982 and two years later, Denice Haraway was murdered in 1984.

The trailer shows that Ron Williamson and Dennis Fritz were convicted of Debbie's murder and Tommy Ward and Karl Fontendt were later arrested and convicted of Denice's murder.

However, those involved in the documentary claim their confessions were coerced.

Grisham appears as an expert on the case, alongside attorney Barry Scheck, co-director of The Innocence Project.

The series is definitely one for Making a Murderer fans as it features archived videos and images taken in the 1980s, which is similar to the Netflix hit.

Developed by Tweel and Ross Dinerstein and produced by Maura Anderson and Shannon Riggs The Innocent Man should be gripping viewing for fans.

Tweel said: "As a filmmaker, I often find that the best stories are the ones we tell ourselves. But what surprised me was the extent to which that idea also permeates the criminal justice system. By re-examining these old cases, I hope that viewers will identify the biases involved, even their own."

All six episodes will be released on Netflix at once. (

Tweeting about the release of the new series Grisham described the documentary as "gripping, compelling, and ultimately just as heartbreaking as the book."

He also added that although he knows the story well he can't wait to re-watch it.

All six episodes of The Innocent Man arrive on Netflix on the 14th December.
