Netflix's Fatherhood has been one of the most popular films on the streamer for days now.

And if you look at reviews of the Kevin Hart-fronted movie it's not hard to see why. It looks like it packs an emotional punch.

The film stars Get Hard star Kevin, 41, as single dad, Matt - a widowed parent left to raise his son alone after his wife dies following an unexpected early Caesarean section and a Pulmonary embolism.

In the wake of his wife's death, Matt is dazed and heartbroken, but alongside this grief, he now has an important responsibility: his daughter, Maddy.

The film follows his journey raising his daughter alone, and it resonated deeply with many single parents watching.

Reacting to the movie after watching it, one single mum wrote: "Just got done watching Fatherhood on Netflix and I was crying and laughing throughout the whole damn movie... being a single parent really made me feel this movie even harder".

Meanwhile, another concurred: "Congratulations, Fatherhood is an absolute triumph. I'm a single parent and you captured the emotional struggle, self doubt and overwhelming love for a child perfectly.

"Touching, funny, caring and a powerhouse performance. I cried my way through a box of tissues. Thank you for this film. (sic)".

A third related as the child of a single parent.

"Wow @KevinHart4real Fatherhood on Netflix was absolutely incredible. Coming from a single parent household this story hit all the feels! Amazing watch," they said.

In particular, many praised the film for depicting the journey of a widowed Black father, and the realities of Black maternity, given that Black women are four times more likely to die as a result of pregnancy or in childbirth than white women are.

Twitter

"Fatherhood was more emotional than I expected. Especially given the realities of Black maternal mortality. Thank you for telling this story, Dana Stevens. @netflix @AlfreWoodard @KevinHart4real @LilRel4," one woman said.

Another penned: "Kevin Hart's Fatherhood on Netflix is sooooo needed! The Single Black Father perspective is nonexistent on the small or big screens not to mention silenced in every day conversations. We NEED to have this narrative more often and nonstop".

The movie is based on the 2011 memoir Two Kisses for Maddy: A Memoir of Loss and Love by Matthew Logelin, and tells the true story of his journey as a widowed dad.

And it wasn't just those who had a personal connection to the plot who were left touched by it.

Sharing a meme of someone sobbing, one person wrote: "Me the entire time watching Fatherhood on Netflix today".

Twitter

As another wrote: "The first 15 minutes of #Fatherhood on @netflix has me in mf tears (sic)".

Twitter

"Just started Fatherhood and I'm already bawling," said another.

This looks like a truly important watch - but maybe one to watch with the tissues to hand...
