During lockdown, we're always looking for new shows to add to our binge-watch list. And now, Netflix has dropped the trailer for The Innocence Files. It looks *so* good.

The original documentary series shines a light on the untold stories behind eight cases of wrongful conviction, detailing the tireless work carried out by non-profit organisations in a bid to overturn verdicts.

The nine-episode series - which takes a look at eight cases worked on by The Innocence Project and the Innocence Network - focuses on three sections: Evidence, witness and prosecution.

It will look at the cases of Chester Hollman III, Kenneth Wyniemko, Alfred Dewayne Brown, Thomas Haynesworth, Franky Carrillo, Levon Brooks, Kennedy Brewer, and Keith Harward - who are all believed to be products of a miscarriage of justice.

Not only does it delve into each case itself, but the programme also exposes how a wrongful conviction can cause irreparable damage to the defendant, victims of crime and the families involved.

Ahead of its release on Wednesday 15th April, Netflix has released a gripping trailer, featuring snippets from each case, interviews with families and heartbreaking clips of wrongfully accused defendants, describing how it felt to finally be free.

One man said: "When I got out of jail I just took my shoes off and walked around the yard. Twelve years I haven't touched no grass."

While another interviewee said: "I think the best thing a lawyer can do with their licence is get an innocent man out of prison."

Netflix also released a series of new images from the series, including a touching shot of a family reuniting.

Co-founders of The Innocence Project - a nonprofit legal organisation committed to exonerating the wrongly-convicted - Peter Neufeld and Barry Scheck said: "We are thrilled to be part of the groundbreaking Netflix series, 'The Innocence Files'.

"This is truly important television. Each episode reveals-step by step-how the American criminal justice system gets it wrong. These stories feature people whose freedom was stolen because of governments' reliance on junk science, discredited and suggestive eyewitness identification procedures, and prosecutors who engage in misconduct to win at any cost.

"We hope these stories motivate people to take action. There are tried and tested reforms that will improve the system to make it more fair and just. Countless innocent people endure unspeakable suffering in maximum security prisons and death row for crimes they didn't commit.

"These miscarriages of justice extend a circle of pain and trauma that embraces families, communities, and even victims of crime. We must do better."

You can watch The Innocence Files from 8am on Wednesday 15th April.
