Disney has confirmed that it will be screening the new live-action Mulan on Disney+ next month.

The streaming platform will be housing the much anticipated movie from 4th September in certain territories, instead of releasing it in cinemas, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be available to watch from a variety of countries including Australia, the US, Canada, New Zealand, and many other Western European countries.

Meanwhile, those not screening the film on Disney+ will see it land in cinemas as planned.

While most of Disney+'s drops have been covered by the monthly subscription so far, the catch is that you'll have to fork out $29.99 (£22.89) to watch this one.

But, given the hype surrounding this film, we can pretty much guarantee it's going to be worth the splurge.

Mulan was originally expected to hit the big screen on 27th March, but was unfortunately pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Its release date was moved multiple times after this amid the ongoing national crisis - so, the fact we're finally going to be able to watch it is exciting news, to say the least.

On the exciting news, Deadline report Disney CEO Bob Chapek said: "We're pleased to bring Mulan to a consumer base that's been waiting for it as we've had to move our (release) dates several times.

The film, starring Yifei Liu, is said to have had a $200 million (£159 million) budget, and according to reviews from the premiere it is not set to disappoint.

One critic said: "I've seen MULAN twice now and I must say it is great. Easily Disney's best live action reboot.

"I think it's also Disney's first battle epic? It is beautiful & absorbing & rich & empowering. The cast is excellent and Niki Caro's direction is just breathtaking."

While another said: "#Mulan is absolutely fantastic. Different enough with great action scenes, but with the heart of the original film.

"It doesn't even matter that it's not a musical. If you're a fan of the animated, there are subtle nods to many of the songs. Can't wait to see this again."

Mulan features a super starry cast including Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, Jason Scott Lee as Böri Khan and Yoson An as Cheng Honghui. Also appearing are Gong Li as Xianniang and Jet Li as the Emperor.

The latest live-action remake from Disney is directed by Niki Caro, and just like the original flick, comes from the screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek based on the narrative poem The Ballad of Mulan.

The film tells the same story as the animated original of a young woman who disguises herself as a man to take her elderly dad's place in the military.

The movie was meant to air in March (

As per the official synopsis: "When the Emperor of China issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army to defend the country from Northern invaders, Hua Mulan, the eldest daughter of an honored warrior, steps in to take the place of her ailing father.

"Masquerading as a man, Hua Jun, she is tested every step of the way and must harness her inner-strength and embrace her true potential.

"It is an epic journey that will transform her into an honored warrior and earn her the respect of a grateful nation...and a proud father."

If you're already a Disney+ subscriber then lucky you! If not, you can quite easily sign up to the service for £5.99 per month with the option to cancel anytime.
