Mufasa’s Death In The Lion King Voted As The Most Heartbreaking Movie Scene

Who could forget poor Simba's face when he realised his dad had been killed?

When it comes to some of our favourite movies, there are a number of tragic scenes that will have even grown men tearing up in no time. There's the one where Bambi's mother died, the funeral of Thomas J Sennett in My Girl, and let's not even talk about Little Foot's mum (RIP) in The Land Before Time.

However, Ranker has just rated the most heartbreaking movie scenes of all times, and the death of Mufasa in The Lion King comes out tops.

No surprise there - the image of poor Simba snuggling up to his dad and begging him to wake up after Scar threw him into the stampede that killed him is forever seared into our brains. Mufasa was one of the best dads in Disney history and its fair to say that his death traumatised a whole generation.

Mufasa's untimely murder was followed in second place by the death of Little Foot's mother aka Mama Longneck in The Land Before Time, who dies protecting her son and his friend Cera from the original Sharptooth.

Her death would later be avenged when Littlefoot and his new-found friends who, after several encounters, killed Sharptooth once and for all.

The death of Ellie Fredricksen from Up came in third, which might come as a surprise seeing as she was killed off in the first ten minutes. Seeing the impact it has on her husband Carl has us crying like babies each and every time though.

Elsewhere in the top ten we've got the devastating demise of Dobby the House Elf in the Harry Potter franchise, and the deaths of both the cute pups from Marley & Me and Old Yeller, proving that most of the time we really do love animals more than humans.

BRB, we're off to find the tissues.
