Fantasy comedy Matilda was a standout film in many of our childhoods, with unforgettable scenes leaving us dreaming of possessing magical powers, longing to be Miss Honey when we grow up, and terrified of the Chokey.

The film based on Roald Dahl's beloved children's novel came out over 20 years ago, and we'd just about lost all hope of a sequel - until Danny DeVito gave us a glimmer of hope.

Yes, the actor - who directed and produced the film - spoke about how he's "always wanted" to do a sequel.

"I always wanted to do Matilda 2, but when the kid was still a kid," the actor, 75, told ComicBook.com in a recent interview.

"But that was like 20 years ago, 25 years ago. Maybe Matilda has a kid and we can do something that, I don't know."

How exciting!

While this isn't confirmation it's going to happen, the fact DeVito - who also starred in the flick as Matilda's mean father, Harry Wormwood - is brainstorming some ideas is good enough for us.

But first things first, he'd have to round up the original crew.

Mara Wilson, who played the title character, is now 32 (how old does that make you feel?!), retired from acting in 2000 and has since spent time writing and appearing in podcasts.

The actress rose to fame in the 90s playing Natalie Hillard in Mrs. Doubtfire (1993), Susan Walker in Miracle on 34th Street (1994), and finally Matilda.

Maybe she can don her red bow once more for the sequel? PLEASE MARA.

Pam Ferris, who played Ms Trunchbull, has done tons of acting since Matilda. The actress, 71, most recently appeared in 2019 biopic Tolkein, Holmes & Watson and as Sister Evangelina in Call the Midwife - so she'd most likely be game, right?

Kiami Davael played Matilda's best friend Lavender, but has stayed largely out of the limelight since. After her role in Matilda, she took on a few small roles and completed a psychology degree. Fancy it, Kiami?

Embeth Davidtz, who played Miss Honey, went on to star in a number of high profile films and TV shows after Matilda. Army of Darkness, Schindler's List, Bicentennial Man, Californication and Mad Men are among just some of her credits.

Guys, let's just get together and make this happen, OK?
