Often with reality TV, it's hard to remember that what may seem real is often heavily produced.

Occasionally the veil of 'reality' falls down and us viewers feel a little cheated, case in point: the following Selling Sunset news.

Brace yourselves for this one fans, as it may shock you. Did you know that Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet were ALREADY married when the show started?

Yes, the real estate broker, 39, and her French model beau, 27, actually officially tied the knot a whole 18 months before their televised wedding.

The gorgeous couple's nuptials played out in season 2 finale of the reality show, having taken place in October 2019, but the pair were officially wed the year before.

Mary and Romain's reps confirmed to US Weekly: "Mary and Romain had a civil union a couple of months before the show began filming in June of 2018, but they chose not to tell any of their friends or family, as they were still trying to see if their relationship would work out in the long term."

Despite us feeling a *little* cheated (that 'will he won't he' narrative and proposal scene in Mary's bed feel just so staged now), Mary and Romain say they felt their Selling Sunset wedding was the real deal.

"In their minds, they weren't properly married until the wedding that was filmed during the show," their reps added.

Season 2 followed Mary as she planned her wedding, running into roadblocks left right and centre. Planning the whole thing herself (with minimal help from Romain), she was left devastated when her venue fell through a week before the wedding was due to take place.

The season also saw Romain feud with Davina Potratz, refusing to allow her to come to the wedding after she mocked his engagement ring. Fair enough, tbh. However, it was a huge source of stress for Mary who wanted to keep peace at the broker's office.

Mary and Romain's French-themed ceremony take place at one of her listings in Los Angeles in October 2019.

Unbelievably, Mary even sold her wedding venue on her wedding day. Now that's professionalism.
