Line of Duty has wrapped up for now, but the BBC has revealed a first look at a brand new drama starring Martin Freeman that will 'definately' fill the LOD-shaped void in our lives.

Martin Freeman stars in The Responder as Chris, a crisis-stricken, morally compromised, unconventional urgent response officer tackling a series of night shifts in Liverpool.

The series will hold a mirror up to the emotional extremes of life on the front line of British policing, which is sometimes funny and at other times painfully tragic and challenging.

This sounds like it'll certainly fill the police drama shaped hole in our lives.

Filming is taking place right now around the Liverpool City region, with the five episode series set to debut on BBC and BBC iPlayer in the near future. It is written by author Tony Schumacher who also happens to be from Liverpool, and is directed by Tim Mielants.

Martin Freeman says: "Tony Schumacher's scripts were so unique and honest that I knew very quickly that I wanted to be a part of The Responder and take on the role of Chris. No-one writes like Tony and it has been exhilarating inhabiting the world he has created."

Tony Schumacher said: "My fantasy casting when I was writing the character of Chris in the Responder was Martin Freeman. Seeing that fantasy become reality is beyond exciting.

"Martin is one of the great British actors. He brings such a well of talent and humanity that breathes magic into the words I've been lucky enough to give him.

It is unclear whether Line of Duty will be back for another series (

"I can't wait for audiences to get to see his performance in this role, it's one I feel very lucky to have had a front row seat for."

The cast also includes Adelayo Adedayo, Ian Hart, MyAnna Buring, Kerrie Hayes, Warren Brown, David Bradley, Rita Tushingham and newcomers newcomers Josh Finan and Emily Fairn.

The BBC have not announced a premiere date yet but stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
