Married at First Sight Australia contestant Ines Basic has claimed that she has been wrongly portrayed as a villain in the hit show.

The 28-year-old said viewers need to understand that producers played a huge role in how she portrayed.

The law student and influencer took to Instagram to answer questions from her followers. When asked if the show was fake or staged, Ines said: "The whole purpose of a TV show - if you do the math - networks have money to make or they can't run."

She then added: "We are puppets filming a TV show for your entertainment."

Series six of Married at First Sight Australia is currently airing on E4 and can be streamed on All 4. The series originally aired in Australia all the way back in 2019 and since it debuted in the UK, Ines has attracted the attention of a whole host of new viewers.

Ines received criticism after she was paired with Bronson Norrish. When she first saw him, she said he looked "inbred" and she mocked his eyebrow piercing. She was later caught messaging another contestant, Sam Ball, and they eventually hooked up.

Ines said the trolling has been too much for one person to cope with and called the treatment she has experienced unfair.

"There is only so much a cast member can be held accountable for because we are not in full control," she said.

"I don't think it's fair on anyone who films one of these shows because it is a lot for one to carry and to be held responsible for the entire thing."

Ines then claimed that reality television isn't nearly as "real" as we may think.

She said: "I'm sorry to disappoint. I know a lot of you are really crazy MAFS fans, and they think it is actually fully real.

"But you're playing a character and it is a lot to carry that character. It is a little bit [bleep] draining."

She added: "Now I have exposed all of the tips and tricks to you guys. I will probably have six [bleep] lawsuits waiting for me once I get off the phone."
