A new BBC film is set to be a raw retelling of the dark side of fame.

Make Me Famous, created and written by Reggie Yates, follows the story of Billy (Tom Brittney), whose life is turned upside down when he makes his way onto a reality TV show.

Like so many of the IRL examples we see, Billy struggles to cope with his newfound fame and is forced to confront his own demons.

"When Billy succeeds in impressing the producers of a fictional constructed reality show, he believed his life is set to change forever," the show synopsis reads.

"A year after the show has aired, while some of Billy's co-star's careers are thriving, Billy struggles to balance the afterglow of fame, social media, and tabloid kiss and tells, and the resulting assumptions people have made about his character forcing deep vulnerabilities to the surface.

"Can Billy escape the reputation that now precedes him?"

The television film - starring Tom Brittney, Amanda Abbington, Tilly Keeper, Aiysha Hart, Nina Sosanya and Emma Rigby - is sure to hit home for viewers given the recent tragedies.

In June 2018, Love Island contestant Sophie Gradon, 32, was found dead at her parents' home in Medburn, Ponteland, having taken her life.

Heartbreakingly, the following year, Mike Thalassitis - who was also a contestant on the ITV reality show - was found dead in a park near his home in Edmonton, North London.

Most recently in February, much-loved TV presenter Caroline Flack was found dead in her flat in East London.

The troubled Love Island host had taken her life the day after she found out police were pressing ahead with assault charges following an altercation with her boyfriend Lewis Burton in December.

All three of these horrific incidences brought up new conversations about the pitfalls of stardom, trolling and incessant public scrutiny.

We think it's great a TV show is looking at reality fame for what it is: flawed, and far from picture perfect.
