Idris Elba has teased that Luther could come back as a film.
The actor, 47, has been vocal about his desire for the BBC series to hit the big screen in the past.
But, during a recent interview with Sky News, he teased that significant progress had been made.
"I've made it very clear that I'd like to see Luther come back as a film. And I can tell you this, that we are this close to making a film of Luther," he said.

Since launching in 2010, Luther has been a huge success - following the detective as he solves horrific crimes, and grapples with his feelings for his long-time nemesis, Alice Morgan.
The series ran from up until 2015 before taking a four year hiatus. It then returned for a fifth season in 2019, which has not yet been followed up.
Although its final episode was a smash for ratings, drawing in over 4.7 million viewers, the BBC has not yet commissioned a sixth season of the crime drama.

However, Idris previously explained that the fifth season was always created to lead on to a movie rather than another TV series.
Speaking to Digital Spy in 2018, he said: "This season has the film very much in its sights. If there is a film, then it will be somehow connected to this season."
He added: "Luther has all the ingredients to echo those classic films of the '90s like Seven and Along Came A Spider and I think what we'd like to attempt is use that as a blueprint to create it.
"It will be more murder, more Volvos, more frowning Luther. Essentially we just want to try and take it to a much bigger remit and scale and perhaps international as well."

We can absolutely get behind Luther and his long coat on the big screen.
