People Are Calling New Crime Drama Show Lupin The 'Best Thing On Netflix’

The streaming giant has been smashing it out the park with some of its recent releases, with Bridgerton, Bling Empire and Night Stalker becoming essential viewing during lockdown.

And now, Netflix subscribers have hailed new release Lupin as the best new series to get your teeth stuck in to.

Having dropped earlier this month, the French-language follows Assane Diop (played by Omar Sy) whose life is turned upside down when his father died after being accused of a crime he didn't commit.

Now 25 years on, Assane turns criminal mastermind and gets inspiration from a book about gentleman thief Arsène Lupin to seek revenge.

The drama is scheduled to be Netflix's biggest French-language hit to date, and is on schedule to have been watched by 70 million households in its first 28 days on the platform - making it even bigger than smash-hit Bridgerton, which was watched by 63 million.

It has ranked in the Netflix top 10 in multiple countries including the UK, and has reached the top spot in France, Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Sweden and more.

Fans have flocked to Twitter to lavish Lupin with praise, with one writing: "Two episodes in and I've decided that Lupin is the best thing on Netflix."

"Lupin is some of that amazing French storytelling in the tradition of Dumas. Plus, it's perfectly f***ing French (subtitles, of course), set in Paris," added a second.

"Only nine mins in to Lupin and I'm loving it. Good Lord!" a third chipped in, while a fourth wrote: "If you need a new show to watch on Netflix, I highly recommend Lupin I love it!"

A fifth compared the high drama to another detective drama, writing: "Lupin on Netflix is great. A modern day homage like Sherlock."

Even dogs seem to love it, with one person sharing an image of their pup glued to the screen while Lupin airs.

Now, many are calling for the five-episode series to get a second season.

"Finished all 5 episodes of Part 1 Lupin on Netflix. I was so immersed of the storyline. Can't wait for Part 2!" said one.

"If you haven't already, watch Lupin on Netflix. is such a great show, they needa drop part 2 ASAP," said a second.

"Lupin is one of the best shows Netflix has dropped in a while - green light season 2 and 3 immediately," demanded a third.

Looks like we're going to have to catch up!
