We're only halfway through the fifth season of Lucifer, but already we're being teased about what to expect for the show's sixth - and final - season.

And by the looks of the episode titles, it's not going to be a happy ending for our favourite fallen angel.

Revealed via the official Lucifer Writers' Room account, the title of the fifth episode of the sixth season is 'The Murder of Lucifer Morningstar'.

Say it ain't so, guys!

Well - it may well not actually be so; as any fans of Lucifer would know, the show regularly pokes fun at itself, its viewers, and Lucifer actor Tom Ellis' bottom repeatedly.

The fifth season of Lucifer has had lots of campy fun in inverting its usual themes, having featured a musical episode, an episode filmed in black and white and even seeing the introduction of Lucifer's evil twin brother.

The fifth season has been split into two parts, with production of the sixth and final season of Lucifer to start when coronavirus restrictions begin to ease.

Some impressive guest stars will be joining the cast for the show's last hurrah; Merrin Dungey, who is known for Alias, Malcolm in the Middle and Once Upon a Time will join as a by-the-book police officer.

Elsewhere, Brianna Hildebrand, who stars in the Deadpool franchise, will star as Rory - a rebellious angel who will follow in Lucifer's footsteps, but may be disappointed when she actually meets him.

Despite its huge popularity across the world, Lucifer was previous cancelled in 2018, after only middling success on American network Fox. The show was destined for the scrapheap, before being revived for two seasons on Netflix.

However, the popularity of seasons four and five saw star Tom Ellis, who plays the saucy devil, agree to do season six, which - despite protests from fans - really will be the last season.

"I know we're the Lazarus of TV shows, but this is definitely going to be the final season," he told The Guardian.

But we still have plenty more Lucifer to enjoy - the second half of Lucifer season five, known as 5B, is yet to be released, and season six is made up of 10 episodes (perhaps the biggest hint that our protagonist doesn't die in episode six...)

Lucifer is available to stream on Netflix.
