Line Of Duty fans, we come bearing good news. While it might feel like you've been waiting forever for the sixth season to drop, when it does you're going to get more than you bargained for.

Yep, the BBC has confirmed that it is now offering up a seven part series, meaning we all get an extra hour of the hit Jed Mercurio show when it returns to screens.

The show was originally only meant to be a six-parter, but it looks like the team had so much quality content they had to stretch it out a little more. Result!

Check out the fun video they shared as they dropped the news below:

Sharing the exciting development on Twitter, the BBC teased: "Listen up, fellas. When the gaffer asks for more, you better deliver.

"#LineOfDuty returns for Series 6 with an extra episode (7 instead of 6). Coming soon to BBC One and BBC iPlayer".

"Mother of god," one person aptly wrote in the comments.

As another penned: "Houl yer whisht! An extra episode are yer saying Steve? Well that sounds fan-flippin-tastic" #LineofDuty".

"Yessss just hurry up and get in the tv now!!! #LineofDuty #lod," a third chipped in.

The BBC series is expected to land back on screens in March of this year, meaning there really isn't long until we can binge all seven episodes.

While we know very little about the plot of Line Of Duty season six so far, what we do know is that it centres around Detective Chief Inspector, Joanne Davidson - who AC-12 investigate as she arrives on the scene.

Joanne is a new character set to appear in the upcoming series, played by Kelly Macdonald, from Boardwalk Empire, The Victim, No Country for Old Men and Giri/Haji.

And her unconventional methods of investigation into an unsolved murder will raise some eyebrows as she makes her debut.

Kelly is making her debut alongside some of the show's returning regulars, including Vicky McClure, Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar.

Speaking about the signing, Mercurio said: "We're honoured that Kelly Macdonald will join Martin, Vicky, and Adrian in series 6 of Line of Duty.

"DCI Joanne Davidson will prove the most enigmatic adversary AC-12 has ever faced."

We cannot WAIT.
