Line Of Duty Fans Are Just Realising Where Kate Recognises Ryan From

And Kate may have figured it out too…

Line Of Duty has returned to screens to make our Sunday nights a little more thrilling - and while we may only be two episodes in, it's shaping up to be one of the most explosive seasons yet.

AC-12 have found themselves investigating one of their most slippery adversaries yet, with Joanne Davidson (Kelly Macdonald) seemingly always one step in front of the team as they interrogate her for corruption.

However, the latest season has found itself peppered with throwbacks from season one - with some characters re-emerging 10 years after Steve Arnott's (Martin Compston) first case.

Watch the throwback here:

One such familiar face is Ryan Pilkington (Gregory Piper), who Line Of Duty fans may recognise as the tearaway teen who had links to the OCG (that's 'Organised Crime Gang' for those not in the know).

But Ryan was more than just your average disruptive teen - Ryan found himself deep into the OCG's crimes when he was part of a team that tied up Steve and nearly severed his finger.

Ryan had been promoted from drugs mule and skivvy in Season 5, where we saw a now grown-up Ryan running alongside the rest of the OCG, and it appears he has the ultimate cover as he is now working as a police constable alongside Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure).

But it seems cocky Ryan (who didn't even bother to use a fake name when signing up to the police) may be about to have his cover blown, as Kate has started to smell a rat.

In Sunday night's episode, Kate asks whether she's ever worked with Ryan before, which he feebly denies.

However, OG Line Of Duty fans will remember that Kate had to question Ryan for his involvement with Steve Arnott's assault in season one - where she threatened him with prison for his actions.

Telling the 13-year-old grim stories of time inside, Kate hisses the now immortal (and NSFW) line: "They knock your teeth out Ryan. They do this so you can give better blow jobs."

And while Kate seemingly played dumb in the present day about Ryan's identity, one eagle-eyed fan believes Kate does know where she recognises Ryan from, as she's spotted looking him up on her computer later.

"Kate KNOWS!" the fan tweeted. "Did anyone else clock this?"

That's not the only fan theory doing the rounds - some viewers believe that Chloe Bishop (Shalom Brune-Franklin) is actually the daughter of series 1 'bent copper' Tony Gates.

You can read more about that here.

Line Of Duty continues Sundays at 9pm on BBC One.
