Joanne Froggatt - who starred in ITV's Liar and Downton Abbey - is set to play the lead role in a new podcast drama series.

Joanne will play Jackie O'Hara in podcast, The Harrowing, which will launch on Apple podcasts on Thursday 25th June.

The series - created by Fremantle's scripted podcast label, Storyglass - is a supernatural thriller and recalls events that took place on a remote Scottish island over Easter. The story is told by the only survivor - Sergeant Jackie O'Hara (played by Joanne).

The official synopsis reads: "On a remote island, north west of the Scottish mainland, Easter 2019. In an isolated farmhouse a family lies slain. Their daughter, left untouched, is found wandering the hills, lost and bewildered.

"As a once-in-a-generation storm gathers on the horizon and the girl is taken into protective custody, a mysterious stranger is seen watching the darkening skies near the crime scene."

Things take a very spooky turn when the mysterious person is arrested by Sergeant Jackie O'Hara. He refuses to give his name but warns of a "coming evil". The next day, his cell is empty.

"The stranger is gone. And so is the girl," the synopsis continues.

Sounds very eery.

The eight-part drama has been written by Mark Healy and is executive produced by Fremantle's director of global drama, Sarah Doole, and Storyglass' creative director Robert Delamere.

Meanwhile, Ben Walker serves as producer and alongside Joanne will star Rosalind Eleazer, Adam James, Alec Newman and Sorcha Groundsell.

Speaking about the podcast, Joanne said: "It was an absolute pleasure to work on this dark, supernatural thriller. The pull between good and evil, and heaven and hell sets the tone for this incredible story.

"I hope you enjoy listening to The Harrowing as much as we enjoyed making it."

You can listen to The Harrowing on Apple Podcasts on Thursday 25th June. We've got a feeling this one's going to be *so* gripping.
