The tense opener of Liar Series 2 left us with all the questions. Viewers were split down the middle over the death of Andrew Earlham and whether Laura Nielson had been framed.

And some fans have a convincing theory that suggests Andrew may in fact still be alive.

Intrigued? Us too. Series 2 kicked off as Laura was arrested for rapist Andrew's murder, after he was fatally wounded with a knife to the throat and left for dead in marshland.

Laura became the main suspect in the investigation but maintained that she was innocent. "I'm not going to confess to something I didn't do!" she tells the police.

Gradually, flashbacks reveal parts of the events that played out in the lead up to Andrew's death. Until this sequence, fans did not know much about Andrew's death - at the end of series one in 2017, the details were still a mystery.

The fan theory hinges on a car key, which some viewers believe was in fact planted in Laura's house to make her a suspect. On the discovery of the key, Laura was arrested by police.

Another theory put forward was that the plastic surgeon whose boat Andrew was hiding out in made alterations to the body to "look like him" in order to frame Laura. Elaborate, yes, but we love how creative viewers are getting with their conclusions.

"Spoiler theory: Andrew's not dead," wrote one Twitter user. "He got his pal the plastic surgeon (whose boat he was hiding on) to make the body look like him. Then planted evidence in Laura's house."

"I bet this is it," replied another. "He'll be revealed to be alive and at the end and framing Laura for his murder."

Others believed that Andrew had in fact killed himself, making it look like Laura had murdered him.

"Unless this is massive misdirection, then I reckon it's going to turn out that Andrew decided to kill himself but enlisted the help of someone, possibly his son, to make it look like Laura murdered him," suggested one viewer.

Or could Laura's sister have planted the car key? She was seen picking it up after Andrew left the hospital.

"Did her sister plant the key?" tweeted one eagle-eyed fan.

"Laura's sister was the one with the key, possibly she planted it in her place trying to frame Laura," added another.

We can't wait to see which - if any - of these theories is proved right.
