James Bond Star Lashana Lynch To Play Miss Honey In Netflix's Matilda Remake
The British actress is joining the second movie adaption based on Roald Dahl's iconic 1988 children's classic.
Following a young girl named Matilda, her precocious nature and telekinetic superpower help her overcome her troubling family life, classmates and the school's principal Miss Trunchbull.
Miss Honey eventually adopts Matilda and the pair live happily ever after together.
Lashana is finishing up talks to play Matilda's good-natured teacher in the new film, which takes inspiration from the stage production Matilda the Musical.
Matthew Warchus, who directed the stage musical, will also return to direct the film. Original playwright Dennis Kelly is adapting the screenplay, which includes music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Lashana is adding another iconic role onto her resumé after stepping into the James Bond universe for No Time Left to Die as Nomi, thought to be the new 007. The action film was originally set to debut in April 2020 but was delayed to 2nd April 2021 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The original Matilda film premiered in 1996 and has become a classic. Danny DeVito, who played Matilda's father and shady car salesman Harry Wormwood, also directed the film. Embeth Davidtz starred as Miss Honey.

Mara Wilson, who played Matilda in the film, recently opened up about her experiences filming while her mother, Suzie Wilson, battled breast cancer. She passed away in April 1996, four months before the film's release, with the movie dedicated to Mara's mother.
Mara spoke fondly of her time working with Danny whom she described as "really wonderful" and that his family took her "under their wing as a kind of like a second family".
Danny DeVito later revealed to Mara that he showed her mother an unfinished cut of the film before she passed away.
Mara continued: "Danny and his wife, Rhea, they would let me come over to their house.
"We would have sleepovers, we went to go see plays, we went to see movies.
"They made sure I was also being treated like a kid. I played with their kids, just like any other kids."
Lashana has appeared in the MCU, starring opposite Brie Larson in 2019's Captain Marvel as fellow fighter pilot Maria Rambeau. It is unclear whether she will reprise her role for the sequel, which is currently set for release on 11th November 2022.
