BBC have given viewers a New Year's treat after they released a trailer for its upcoming releases - and it includes one extra special first glimpse of the upcoming third season of Killing Eve.

TV fans were left on knife's edge when in the closing moments of the series finale when Eve appeared to be shot dead by an angry Villanelle after she refused to run away with the killer.

Obviously, we're all hoping that Eve is rescued, preferably by Villanelle who realises the error of her ways, and survives, but the plot is a closely guarded secret.

Now in the newly-released clip, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) can be seen pensively looking directly into the camera lens, but what is going through her mind? We do not know.

But at least we don't have long to wait as the national broadcaster previously announced that the show would be returning to American screens in April for its third instalment.

While we haven't got an exact release date, it's thought that the series will follow the same pattern of the first seasons and be released mid-June in the UK after it airs in the US.

The award-winning Jodie Comer will of course be returning as the fashionably quirky assassin Villanelle, alongside her co-star Sandra Oh as the infatuated MI6 agent Eve Polastri.

Executive producer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who has picked up a Golden Globe, an Emmy and a BAFTA for her work on the twisted thriller, has passed on the showrunner mantle once again for the third season.

Phoebe helmed the script for season one, where we were introduced to the extreme game of cat and mouse between Villanelle and Eve, before Emerald Fennell took over for season two, and now Susanne Heathcote will take over for the third.

The original series was based on a short novel by Luke Jennings, but Phoebe deviated from the source material quite dramatically so there's no surefire way of guessing what will happen next.

The author released a sequel late last year which was the basis of the second series, and he is also in collaboration with the show producers on the storyline.

The dark comedy thriller has been a huge hit with viewers as the BBC revealed it had received 46million requests on iPlayer since it was first released.

Meanwhile, BBC One's trailer also featured teasers for Little Mix: The Search, Doctor Who, Our Girl, The Greatest Dancer, Life and Birth, and the highly-anticipated return of Line Of Duty.

Fans of the Jed Mercurio show have been waiting patiently for a look at season six, and now their prayers have been answered, at least partially, with a very short snippet.

What a plethora of good TV to sink our teeth into in 2020!
