*This article contains major spoilers for Killing Eve season 3.*

After months of anticipation, the Season 3 premiere of Killing Eve finally landed on Sunday night - and Twitter was left reeling.

Frankly, it was like everyone in the writers' room had decided to rip up the rule book.

For starters, the episode opened with a curveball wedding, with a suit-rocking Villanelle getting hitched to an unnamed woman.

There was also the arrival of Villanelle's former mentor Dasha (played by Harriet Walter), whose mission is to convince our favourite assassin to return to The Twelve.

Cue an epic wedding fight scene - these two clearly share a long history and a whole lot of unfinished business.

Meanwhile, Eve has left the high stakes world of M16 and is living the quiet life working in a dim sum restaurant.

Most unexpected - not to mention devastating - of all, was the death of loveable Kenny, Carolyn's son and Eve's former assistant.

Seriously, writers, wtf?

Poor Kenny came to an untimely end by being thrown off the roof of his office building, just before his reunion meet-up with Eve.

Wow. The death of a well-loved key character in a series opener is a big move to pull. Fans of the show are naturally shocked.

Talking about the decision to kill off a well-liked character, Suzanne Heathcote - head writer on Killing Eve - told TVLine: "I really don't want people to think it was a coldhearted decision. We mourn the character, too... Kenny is a fantastic character, he's beloved, and Sean [Delaney] is a fantastic actor."

Referring to the plotline as "monumental", Heathcote said that the twist "had to be something of that size to get that engine going."

But who killed Kenny and what was their motive?

Given that Villanelle was doing a job in Barcelona at roughly the same time, it seems unlikely to be her.

The most obvious suspect would be one of The Twelve, who Kenny has been tailing. His online tracing may have alerted them to him and resulted in an assassination.

Or could it be Dasha, Villanelle's former teacher and new handler, who we know so little about?

One 'fishy' fan theory rearing its head on Twitter is that Konstantin is the killer.

The theory hinges on a text message that Konstantin received about going fishing. Fans believe this relates to Kenny 'fishing for information' and getting killed as a result.

One fan tweeted: "It might be Konstantin because if u saw the text message he got, it was "Going Fishing". Kenny is fishing for info & looks like he found it."

Another agreed: "Konstantin killed Kenny or has something to do with his death. He was told to go fishing (Eve and/or Villanelle) and Kenny was the bait. Season 3 ends with Eve as the keeper, which is why Villanelle leaves Eve at the train station in the finale?!"

"Theory - Konstantin killed Kenny and that's why Villanelle or Eve or Carolyn will have to kill him," chimed in a third.

Another viewer thought that Carolyn might even be involved in Konstantin's mission (please no!): "S3 spoiler theory: Carolyn's last words to Kenny were if he wanted fish and chips. Konstantin gets the message to "go fishing". Kenny is killed. Carolyn is a part of The Twelve and ordered to kill Kenny??!!"

You heard it here first, guys. According to Twitter, Kenny's sleeping with the fishes and Konstantin's responsible.
