Killing Eve fans get excited: the Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh crime thriller has just been renewed for a fourth season.

That's right, we know now that Villanelle is returning to our screens for another instalment - and the third season hasn't even aired in the UK yet.

BBC America announced the news on Friday to Killing Eve fans, in a tweet which read: "We've been dying to tell you... #KillingEve Season 4."

"I am beyond thrilled that we can continue our extraordinary journey," said Executive Producer Sally Woodward Gentle of the renewal. "It is testament to everyone involved that we have been picked up so early - the magnificent actors, writers, directors and production team. We are extremely lucky to work with such fierce and dedicated people."

"How could we not have massive confidence in Killing Eve? It has won big in every major award show and is the highest growing show on U.S. television for six years," added Sarah Barnett of AMC Networks Entertainment Group.

"The reason for this series' emphatic embrace is the brilliant women who breathed it into being: Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Emerald Fennell, Sandra Oh, Jodie Comer, Fiona Shaw and it's fairy godmother, executive producer Sally Woodward Gentle.

"Season 3 lead writer Suzanne Heathcote takes Eve, Villanelle and Carolyn to places more thrilling, twisted and surprising than ever. Our addicted fans will not be disappointed."

The exciting news comes as the BBC gave viewers a New Year's treat after they released a trailer for its upcoming releases - and it includes one extra special first glimpse of the upcoming third season of Killing Eve.

TV fans were left on knife's edge when in the closing moments of the series finale when Eve appeared to be shot dead by an angry Villanelle after she refused to run away with the killer.

Obviously, we're all hoping that Eve is rescued, preferably by Villanelle who realises the error of her ways, and survives, but the plot is a closely guarded secret.

Now in the newly-released clip, Villanelle (Jodie Comer) can be seen pensively looking directly into the camera lens, but what is going through her mind? We do not know.

But at least we don't have long to wait as the national broadcaster previously announced that the show would be returning to American screens in April for its third instalment.

While we haven't got an exact release date, it's thought that the series will follow the same pattern of the first seasons and be released mid-June in the UK after it airs in the US.

The award-winning Jodie Comer will of course be returning as the fashionably quirky assassin Villanelle, alongside her co-star Sandra Oh as the infatuated MI6 agent Eve Polastri.

The dark comedy thriller has been a huge hit with viewers as the BBC revealed it had received 46million requests on iPlayer since it was first released.
