If you're enjoying the constant stream of crime dramas that keep landing on your TV screens, you will be pleased to hear that yet another one is on its way.

Based on Val McDermid's novel, 'The Distant Echo', Karen Pirie (a working title) will soon find its way to ITV - and we know it's in the good hands of the producers of Bodyguard and Line of Duty.

Val's books are a series of cold case investigations based around young Scottish female detective - you guessed it - Karen Pirie.

Karen is refreshingly normal, charmingly unfashionable and anything but slick when it comes to being a cop. Thankfully, her ingenuity and quick mouth makes her an impressive investigator.

We'll see as Karen is promoted to Police Scotland's Historic Cases Unit, tasked with reopening the investigation into a murder, which has recently been the subject of a podcast.

The case is of teenage barmaid Rosie Duff who was stabbed to death in 1995 - but a murderer was never found.

Despite police suspicions that it was to do with the three drunk students who found her body, they were never charged.

But it's now 25 years later and Karen is determined to uncover the truth. It's not going to be easy though, especially when she starts finding flaws in the original investigation and with former police officers - so naturally her queries are set to cause some rifts.

The three two-hour episodes sound set to grip, no doubt intertwining the cold case with a bit about Karen's personal life to keep us intrigued.

The gritty-sounding show is set to be adapted by actress and screenwriter Emer Kenny (Eastenders) who said: "From the moment I read that Karen Pirie orders a Bacardi Breezer as her after-work drink (other brands of alco-pop are available) I knew that she was the detective for me.

"Val is the queen of crime for good reason and I'm honoured to be bringing her creation to a TV audience, especially for ITV which has been home to some of my favourite detective shows, from Broadchurch to Prime Suspect."

Karen Pirie is still in the pre-production stages with no casting details or air date released just yet, but Tyla will update you when we know more.

For now, we can all just look forward to yet another crime drama coming our way.

Can't wait? Why not check out ITV's true crime drama White House Farm on ITV Player in the meantime?

White House Farm in Essex was the location of a gruesome crime in August 1985 (

The show is based on the real life killings of a family who lived in a quiet village in Essex.

Nevill and June Bamber were shot and killed inside their home, along with their adoptive daughter, Sheila Caffell, and Sheila's six-year-old twin sons, Daniel and Nicholas Caffell.

It is pretty harrowing, but it has been highly praised and brings you something gripping to watch in the meantime.
