It's not been a great 12 months for film fans, with cinemas forced to close during the coronavirus pandemic and numerous productions halted or delayed.

But good things come to those who wait, or so the old saying goes, with a number of blockbusters soon to be coming to a big screen (or streaming service) near you.

And one of the films we are longing to see is Jurassic World: Dominion, the third and final film in the hugely popular Jurassic Park franchise.

As you can imagine, one of our most popular film series won't be exiting quietly.

Here's everything you need to know about Jurassic World 3.

When will Jurassic World 3 be released?

Alas, we've still got a bit of a wait to go until we can feast our eyes on the last film in the franchise.

After filming began in Canada and other locations in February last year, production was halted in March as Covid-19 took hold across the world.

Production resumed in July 2020, and concluded four months later in November, with filming locations that included England's Pinewood Studios and the country of Malta.

Due to the aforementioned delays, Jurassic World: Dominion is now currently scheduled to hit cinemas on 10th June 2022.

Who is in the Jurassic World 3 cast?

As with the last two Jurassic World films, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will be back for more dinosaur action, playing Owen Grady and Claire Dearing, respectively.

They will be joined by Jurassic Park OG's Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who will all be returning as Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler and Dr. Ian Malcolm.

What will happen in Jurassic World 3?

While details of the upcoming film are being kept under wraps, it's set to follow on from the 2018 instalment which saw the dinosaurs leaving the confines of Isla Nublar - which was destroyed by a volcano - to roam free on earth.

And judging by the excitement from Chris Pratt, it's going to be well worth the wait.

"Man, I can't tell you anything, but I can tell you it's going to blow your mind," he previously told Variety.

"It's going to be the biggest and best yet. They spared no expense and they're bringing everybody back."

Director Colin Trevorrow, meanwhile, has revealed the third instalment of the franchise is going to be a "culmination" of all the other films, as well as a "celebration" of the whole franchise.

"When you got to the end of the Jurassic Park trilogy, it may not have been as clear in what the complete story of those three movies was because they were a bit more episodic in the way that they were approached," he told Entertainment Weekly.

"But this trilogy is not that way. It's very much a serialised story. What was important for me was, when you watch Dominion, you really feel like you are learning how much of a story that first set of movies was and how everything that happened in those movies actually informs what ultimately is able to happen in this.

"If kids who are born today are going to be presented with six Jurassic Park movies - you hope the parents will buy them the box set - you hope they are going to get to feel like they watch one long story."

Is there a first look at Jurassic World 3?

There is not yet currently a trailer to tease what's to come next year.

However, the cast and crew have shared many glimpses of what we can expect as they filmed.

Colin Trevorrow shared a snap of actress Bryce Dallas Howard in a dinosaur head in front of a green screen.

Meanwhile, Chris Pratt shared a picture of the director's gong, teasing fans on day one of filming.

And Bryce Dallas Howard shared some snaps of the jungle backdrop as she returned to a Covid-secure set in August.

Eek! We can't wait.
