The trailer has finally dropped for Disney's upcoming period adventure, Jungle Cruise - and it looks set to be a white-knuckle watch.

Set in the 1920s, the movie follows riverboat captain Frank (Dwayne Johnson), scientist Lily Houghton (Emily Blunt) and her brother who take a cruise deep into the jungle down the River Nile in search of the magical Tree of Life.

The film is based on the classic Disneyland ride, operating since 1955, in which guests get cruised down 'the Nile' surrounded by animatronic elephants, lions and hippos, among other animals.

While Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt take on the title roles, comedian Jack Whitehall plays Lily's brother McGregor Houghton, who happens to be the second ever gay character in a Disney movie who even comes out in the film.

Édgar Ramírez (The Girl on the Train, American Crime Story) and Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, Bridge of Spies) play unnamed villains while Paul Giamatti (Cinderella Man, 12 Years A Slave) also stars.

The two minute 13 second trailer is the epitome of action packed. We see Emily Blunt take on badass scientist Lily (who can hold herself in a fight), heroic captain Frank (The Rock) leading the ship, and a bloody ginormous waterfall.

Basically it's set to be a win for those who consider films like The Mummy and Jumanji among their faves.

The official synopsis via Disney reads: "Set during the early 20th century, a riverboat captain named Frank takes a scientist and her brother on a mission into a jungle to find the Tree of Life which is believed to possess healing powers. All the while, the trio must fight against dangerous wild animals and a competing German expedition."

Jungle Cruise was originally set for release in October 2019, but it has been pushed back to July 2020 due to Disney's calendar shuffling.

The film-making giants originally wanted to make the film in 2011 starring Tom Hanks and Tim Allen but the project didn't come into fruition.

Last year, Disney released a teaser for the upcoming film in which Emily Blunt and The Rock engage in some friendly co-star banter, revealing the film is a "love story".

Jungle Cruise is set for cinema release on 24th July 2020.
