ITV has unveiled the trailer for its new police drama Wild Bill that's been likened to Idris Elba's highly acclaimed Luther.

The show features Hollywood actor Rob Lowe (of The West Wing), who takes on the leading role as well as playing executive producer.

It centres on multi-Golden-Globe-winning Rob as Bill Hixon, an American cop who relocates to the UK after being given the job of chief constable of the East Lincolnshire Police Force.

Official word on the plot from ITV? "Landing in Boston, Lincolnshire with teenage daughter Kelsey, he's hoping they can flee their recent painful past," says the broadcaster.

"However, this unfamiliar, unimpressed community will force Bill to question everything about himself and leave him wondering if it's Boston that needs Bill, or Bill that needs Boston?"

The star-studded cast also includes plenty of familiar faces from some of our favourite evening dramas. We're talking Angela Griffin (Ordinary Life) who plays a local journalist, Rachael Stirling (The Bletchley Circle), Anjli Mohindra (Bodyguard) and Steffan Rhodri (Apple Tree Yard).

And if Rob's thoughts are anything to go by, we're set to be totally hooked.

The actor compared the show to gripping crime drama Luther, which scored a staggering 4.6 million viewers for the finale of the fifth series.

"This could be that next show," he said at the programme's media showcase in February.

The high-speed trailer shows Rob juggling life as a father and a top cop amidst a culture shock as he forges out a new life in Blighty.

It's unclear how many episodes the series will include but it's set to air next month and will follow a story-of-the-week format with new storylines every episode.
