The Real Reason Ant And Dec Cover Their Watches On 'I'm A Celebrity'

Ant and Dec always cover their watch faces in the 'I'm A Celeb' jungle – but why?

When watching the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! cast take part in terrifying Bushtucker Trials every night, it's understandable you might not be looking at Ant and Dec's ensembles in that much detail.

But the eagle eyed amongst you will notice that the Geordie duo cover their watches every time they go to visit the celebs in the trial clearing, and often keep them covered wherever they are on set.

If you look closely, you'll notice that last night, for instance, the face of Ant's watch was covered with what looked like black tape.

And it didn't take long for some to pick it up on Twitter, writing: "Is Ant's watch covered because of cameras or because of the sun reflection? Or am I seeing things?"

"Who's gonna explain????? A," Ant replied, quoting the tweet - but no explanation followed.

So we decided to-do some digging for ourselves.

It turns out Ant and Dec's watches are covered every year, and it always seems to spark speculation.

One fan theory commonly circulating is that they're not actually live when they say they are.

But the pair have both debunked this in the past, saying it was actually just so that the celebrity camp-mates didn't find out the time.

When quizzed on Twitter in 2011, Ant wrote: "It's so the celebs don't see what time it is. A".

And it appears people have been asking them again and again ever since, with Dec even making a joke about the fact people still didn't know the answer a year later.

When quizzed again, he wrote: "Really? Again? OK. So they don't see the time. D #imacelebrity".

That explains Ant leaving it to the fans to explain this year....

Last year, Scarlett Moffatt and Joel Dommett have also talked about the fact camp-mates have "no concept of time" while hosting Extra Camp, with Scarlett saying last year that TV bosses want the celebs to feel "disorientated" at all times.

Scarlett went on to reveal that once, when she was in camp, she went to bed at around 4pm, only for a voice to call out through a tannoy telling them it was earlier than they realised.

We feel ashamed we didn't know this earlier!
