Ian Somerhalder - one of the stars from The Vampire Diaries for playing bad-boy vampire Damon Salvatore - has said he is not interested in returning to play the character if the show was to return for a ninth season.
The Vampire Diaries originally aired between 2009 and 2017 and concluded having aired 171 episodes over eight seasons.
The show is immensely popular and when it returned to Netflix earlier this month, it ranked in the top 10 of the most popular shows.

The show has also spawned two TV spin-offs: The Originals and Legacies. Fans are clearly thirsty for more vampire drama.
In an interview on Andy Cohen Live, Ian Somerhalder responded to online rumours that a season nine could take place if he and Nina Dobrev were on board.
He explained: "I have not heard anything about a season nine...I mean, like, what would happen? Stefan and Damon...Damon has, like, grey hair and...they have canes?"
Andy then noted the everlasting impact of The Vampire Diaries on pop culture to which Ian agreed.

He added: "Listen, it ran a great course and now it's still living. That's what's so amazing. It's still living."
In case you haven't seen the show, The Vampire Diaries is an American supernatural teen drama from Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. It is based on a popular series of L.J. Smith books of the same name.
The series centres around two vampire brothers, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), who both fell in love with a woman named Katherine Pierce during the time of the Civil War in America, and ended up hating each other as a result.

When they come across her doppelgänger, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), their feelings are instantly reignited, and they both form instant connections with her, while also learning a lot about their former lover, Katherine, and their own relationship in the process.
Stars of the series also include Candice King, Kat Graham, Zach Roerig and Steven R. McQueen, as well as Matthew Davis, Michael Trevino and Joseph Morgan.
Although a ninth season seems unlikely, you can stream all eight seasons on Netflix now.
