Iain Stirling has suggested the possibility of Love Island being filmed in the UK this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to Metro, Iain - who provides the voiceover on the show - raised the possibility that if the show does return for summer 2021, it could be filmed at home, thanks to the success of last year's I'm A Celebrity which was based in Wales.

"Hey, let's see what happens. Like I said, I've no idea, but it could be quite amusing seeing Love Island contestants embracing the beaches of Bognor Regis at some point," he said.

Now that we would like to see!

"When they can't eat their dinner because seagulls are taking it off the plate... it could mix it up," Iain continued.

"I'm A Celeb did such a good job (in wales). It was so funny and such a good season."

Last year's summer series of Love Island - as well as this year's winter series which aired for the first time last January - were both cancelled due to the pandemic.

And it seems sourcing alternative locations could already be on the agenda for ITV bosses. Speaking at the Edinburgh Festival last year, director of television Kevin Lygo said: "If we couldn't do it in Majorca, well, maybe we'll have to do it like we've done with I'm A Celeb, find a new place to do it, because then it would have been off a long time and that would be a shame. We need it."

Meanwhile, Laura Whitmore - who presented last year's winter series - told us the next season of Love Island is expected to return in summer 2021, after ITV has received "more applications than ever" during the show's break.

"It's really all depending on coronavirus," she told Tyla last year. "We've had more applications than ever - there's a lot of people that want to do Love Island and there's a lot of people that want to watch it.

"I really missed not having Love Island in lockdown - I've been watching the old series' because I really needed to not watch the news. They're so naughty! Hopefully we will be in a better situation next year."

We are so desperate for Love Island to return - even if it is in the UK!
