This is just the kind of cheesy festive cheer we need RN.

If you're feeling a bit meh about the upcoming festive period, we have some TV news that might perk you up a bit.

Disney has announced that the cast of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is set to deliver a Christmas special, bringing fans 45 minutes worth of performances of their favourite festive songs.

Premiering on Disney+ from 11th December, the special - aptly titled High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special - will see the cast attempt to drive up some holiday spirit performing their renditions of a mix of Christmas classics, new hits and Hanukkah and New Years songs.

It's set to be a real feast for fans of the High School Musical-inspired mockumentary series, as cast members - made up of Olivia Rodrigo, Joshua Bassett, Matt Cornett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Julia Lester, Dara Reneé, Frankie Rodriguez, Joe Serafini, Mark St. Cyr and Kate Reinders - will be spilling all about their Christmas traditions, including anecdotes from their childhoods, embarrassing past presents, family photos and their most poignant New Year's resolutions.

This is just the kind of cheesy festive cheer we need RN. And as if that wasn't enough, fans will also get a sneak peak at season 2 of the hit Disney show.

Tim Federle, executive producer and director of the special, said: "The holidays remind us of the universal importance of family and loved ones.

"The cast of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is its own kind of family, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to share their favourite holiday music and traditions with our viewers."

What's more, if you'd like a sneak listen at the performances before the special airs, they'll be released on all major music services and streaming platforms in the (rather long-windedly titled) High School Musical: The Musical: The Holiday Special: The Soundtrack. Told you it was mouthful.

The special follows on from the new TV series, which landed on Disney+ in November last year.

Described as "not a reboot, not a sequel" to the original High School Musical movie (2006) but instead "the start of something new", the mockumentary is set in a fictionalised version of East High School, where a drama teacher decides to stage a musical to celebrate the school's affiliation with the original film.

It sees a whole new cast are auditioning to play the parts of Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez, and Sharpay Evans in a NEW musical. Yes, it's all very meta.
