Netflix's The Sinner was easily one of the most gripping and gruesome series to grace our screens in 2017, and now a second season is a mere days away.

The psychological thriller doesn't look at 'who' committed the crime, but 'why' the perpetrator committed the crime in the first place, and it makes some pretty shocking discoveries along the way.

At the end of season one, Jessica Biel's character, Cora, finally got to the bottom of why she brutally stabbed a man to death in the middle of the beach, thanks to the help of Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman).

The young mum underwent therapy to recall the traumatic memories that led her to commit the gruesome crime, and now the detective is back to get to the bottom of another mysterious crime.

In the official trailer, Ambrose is called back to his hometown in rural New York to investigate an incredibly disturbing and unsettling crime as it's revealed an 11-year-old boy has murdered both his parents...

As he delves headfirst into the case, Detective Ambrose discovers there's nothing ordinary about this boy or the case he's involved in.

He's pitted against those who'll stop at nothing to protect its secrets - and a mysterious woman who proves to be a complicated, enigmatic piece to this haunting puzzle.

Back in June, executive producer, Jessica Biel tweeted an exclusive first look of the highly anticipated second season, which aired first in the US on 1st August and will hit UK Netflix on Friday, 9th November.

In terms of what we can expect for the plot, a season synopsis teases: "In the wake of the Cora Tannetti case, Detective Harry Ambrose is called back to his hometown in distant rural New York to assess a disturbing new crime: an 11-year-old boy's horrific double-homicide & his seemingly inexplicable motive.

"As Ambrose comes to realise there's nothing ordinary about the boy or where he came from, his investigation leads him straight into the hidden darkness of his hometown and pitting him against those who'll stop at nothing to protect its secrets."
