Netflix has released two first-look images of Henry Cavill in The Witcher Season 2.

Dropping the pictures on Monday, the streaming site wrote: "New armour, same witcher. Here's your first look at Henry Cavill as Geralt in @witchernetflix Season 2."

And the photos do not disappoint, with fans going wild over the new snaps - especially considering we've been waiting so long for the next instalment.

The action-packed series, which some have branded "better than Game of Thrones" landed last December, and it feels like we've been waiting forever for the second instalment, which has had a turbulent time due to the pandemic.

So what will happen in Season 2?

Well, speaking to Digital Spy, producer Lauren Hissrich explained: "What I would say is that season one is very much about building blocks. It's about constructing the world, and setting up these characters, and putting them on paths, and knocking those dominoes over.

"When you get to season two, all of those things start to come to play, which is that characters start meeting each other - sometimes getting along, sometimes not.

The next season will be released next year (

"All those things that we set up - Geralt and Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri, Yennefer and Ciri - all of the different kingdoms that you just barely hear about in season one, start rising to the surface in season two.

"So the storytelling is a little more intense in a way, and maybe a little more focused and driven in the journeys that we're telling in season two."

It will consist of eight episodes and alongside Henry Cavill (Geralt), Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Ciri) are both set to return for the second season, while Netflix has announced that new witchers are joining the cast too: Lambert, played by Paul Bullion, and Coën, played by Yasen Atour.

In May 2020, Redanian Intelligence also rumored a third new witcher coming: Hemrik, played by Joel Adrian.

Killing Eve's Kim Bodnia plays witcher trainer, Vesemir, and Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones' Tormund Giantsbane) will play Nivellen. Other new castings include Mecia Simson as Francesca, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia and Agnes Bjorn as Vereena.

As fans will know, the first season ended with Yennefer's fate unknown, Nilfgaard's army temporarily defeated and Geralt of Rivia finally united with his Child of Surprise, Ciri - so this cannot come soon enough.

Now we just need a release date... come on Netflix!
