Hold onto your seahorses because Harry Styles is in "early negotiations" to play Prince Eric in the live-action remake of Disney's The Little Mermaid.

The Rob Marshall directed flick has already cast R&B singer Halle Bailey, 19, as lead Ariel while Melissa McCarthy, Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are also in talks to go under the sea with the studio.

In the 1989 animated flick, Ariel falls for human Prince Eric after saving him from drowning and later sacrifices her angelic voice for legs with sea witch Ursula to pursue her romance with him.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "The casting of Styles and Bailey show the studio's intent of making the music a central component of the remake" although Prince Eric performed no songs in the original.

Yet, The Little Mermaid Broadway musical sees Eric singing several songs, including two solos which would hit the right notes with fans of the One Direction star, 25.

And as news spread about the potential casting, fans took to Twitter in their droves to share their excitement - days after Harry missed out on the Elvis Presley biopic, which went to US actor Austin Butler.

One penned: "Harry Styles as Prince Eric or im not watching [sic]."

"if harry styles becomes prince eric then i guess its time for me to audition as the paddle on the boat during kiss the girl [sic]." another lamented.

A third wrote: "HARRY STYLES AS PRINCE ERIC? HELL YEAHHHH."

While some simply shared their delight over him potentially landing the part, others posted comparisons and memes of him as Prince Eric.

It's not the 'Sign Of The Times' singer's first foray into cinema after he starred in Christopher Nolan's 2017 war drama Dunkirk.

Styles played Alex in the feature starring opposite Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Oscar-winner Mark Rylance.

Go on Harry, 'Be Part Of' Disney's World!
