Americans Are Watching Harry Potter For The First Time And Their Reactions Are Everything

"HAGRID HAS A FLYING MOTORBIKE WHAT".

Imagine never having watched Harry Potter before, and getting to lap up the whole of J.K. Rowling's wizarding world for the first time, in 2021?

Well, that's a reality for a whole bunch of people, especially because all eight movies have officially dropped on HBO Max over in the US.

While we find it hard to fathom that anybody has managed to avoid the world of Quidditch, talking paintings, Polyjuice Potion and Hippogriffs before, the reality is that there are a small number of Potter virgins who have done just that - abstaining from watching the movies either out of downright stubborn-ness or - we assume - the fact that they've been living under a rock.

But whether as a result of Covid boredom or downright curiosity, they're now finally beginning to binge the movies - filmed between 2001 and 2011. And as you can imagine, they're having a pretty wild ride in the process...

Tonnes of people are only just experiencing the world of Hogwarts (

Sharing one of her friend's texts as she binged the series for the first time, one Potter stan let followers in on all her reactions to some of the biggest moments in the franchise.

One text read: "ARAGOG !?", while another read: "Basilisk !?"

And as she continued her movie marathon, they continued: "MOANING MERTYL", "TOM RIDDLE IS VOLDEMORT," and our personal favourite: "DOBBY IS A FREE ELF. DOBBY GOT A SOCK."

Ah, to be watching all those scenes unfold again...

These texts speak for themselves (

Another tweet from a first-time viewer read: "HAGRID HAS A FLYING MOTORBIKE WHAT".

While a third new Potter fan (rather accurately) pointed out: "Watching all the Harry Potter movies for the first time, and, really, the whole thing should be called "[Hermione], without whom none of this ish would be possible"".

Twitter

A fourth shared a picture of Buckbeak skimming the water and joked: "Watching harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban for the first time.... this is how i feel when im on a boat".

Twitter

As another referenced Twilight star Robert Pattinson's appearance in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and wrote: "Why is that vampire *** in harry potter[?]"

Twitter

The ridiculousness didn't stop there, either. A fellow viewer rather hilariously, disclosed: "I've never seen a single Harry Potter movie before.

"Im watching the first one now and I just learned that the movie is spelled Harry Potter and not Hairy Potter. Ive thought it was about a hairy kid this whole time".

Are we being punk'd? We honestly hope so...

"I'm watching the Harry Potter series for the first time and Hogwarts is so scandalous," someone else wrote. And between a three-headed dog hiding in the basement and a werewolf being hired as a teacher, we find it hard to disagree.

Twitter

Another Potter novice similarly pointed out: "Watching some of the Harry Potter films for the first time is leading me to believe that the teachers of the school don't know how to run a school.

"Sure, magic is unpredictable, but still, background checks could of kinda helped with the first year."

He's got a point. Remember Professor Quirrell?

We're so jealous of everyone who is only just experiencing this franchise. If you need us, we'll be scrolling through Twitter and laughing at all their reactions for the rest of the day...
