Speaking during her groundbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan Markle has discussed rumours of a royal feud with her sister in law, Kate Middleton.

Addressing headlines that she made Kate cry ahead of her wedding to Prince Harry, Meghan said during the two-hour CBS interview that, in fact, "the reverse" was true.

"The narrative with Kate that didn't happen was really really difficult and I think thats when everything changed really," she told the talk show host.

When asked pointedly, "did you make Kate cry?", she replied: "No. The reverse happened.

"I don't say that to be disparaging to anyone because she apologised and she bought me flowers and she did what I would do if I hurt someone, but... six, seven months after the wedding, that the reverse of that would be out in the world...I would never want that to come out about her.

"I would never have wanted that to be out in the world."

Elaborating on what occurred between her and Kate, Meghan explained: "A few days before the wedding she was upset about something - the flower girl dresses - and it made me cry and it hurt my feelings.

"And I thought, in the context of everything else that was going on in the days before the wedding, it didn't make sense to make an issue given everything else going on with my dad and whatnot."

She went on: "There wasn't a confrontation and I don't think its fair to her to get into the details of that because she apologised and I've forgiven her.

"Everyone in the institution knew [the story about Kate crying] wasn't true."

"So why didn't anyone say that?," Oprah asked.

"It's a good question," Meghan replied. "I would hope that she would have wanted that corrected.

"She's a good person, and so much of what I have seen play out is that idea of polarity.

"If you love me you don't have to hate her, and if you love her you don't need to hate me. I can see now what layers were at play there, and they really seem to want a narrative of a hero and a villain."

The interview is currently being broadcast in the US on CBS, and is set to be shown here in the UK on Monday at 9pm on ITV.

In the special, Oprah also spoke with Meghan about her marriage, motherhood and philanthropic work.

Other topics that were broached during the chat include shocking allegations of royal concern over Archie's skin colour and the sex of the couple's newborn child.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their Royal duties last year.

When asked whether he would have ever left his family and royal duties if it wasn't for his wife, Prince Harry admitted to Oprah: "The answer is no. I wouldn't have been able to. I was trapped but I didn't know I was trapped."

After being asked how he was trapped, he explained: "Trapped within the system, like the rest of my family are.

"My father, my brother they are trapped...They don't get to leave, and I have huge compassion for that."

The prince added that when he and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and moved to Canada, their security was taken away, and he was also "cut off financially" in the first quarter of 2020.

He explained that the decision was due to his "change in status", before revealing that he "pushed back" and explained it was a risk for his family to be left without support, given that everybody knew where they were living. However, his efforts were to no avail.
