Fans of The Handmaid's Tale were left mind blown after season four came to a cathartic close on Sunday night.

Viewers watched as June Osbourne (Elisabeth Moss) got her revenge on Fred Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) and chased him to his death alongside Emily Malek (Alexis Bledel) and several of her fellow handmaid escapees in No Man's Land.

In a flashback, fans see June plotting with Tuello and Commander Lawrence, who is still in a position of authority inside Gilead.

In an exchange for 22 women, Fred is handed over to Gilead by the ICC, the International Criminal Court, after believing he was on his way to Geneva for an immunity hearing.

Seeking payback, Fred is moved to No Man's Land following Nick Blaine's (Max Minghella) cooperation - and it's here that June, who is filled with murderous rage, "puts Fred on the wall" - a reference to hangings in Gilead - with several of her former handmaid's.

The scene was violent, cruel and downright barbaric but the only way these women could get closure.

Despite the brutal nature of it, fans took to Twitter in their droves to share their satisfaction watching Fred's demise.
