Great British Bake Off's Briony Williams has revealed on Twitter 'what happened' to what she affectionately calls her 'little hand'.

A fan tweeted the baker to ask whether she had Poland's Syndrome, a very rare condition that is characterised by webbing of the fingers and of underdevelopment of chest muscle. It usually affects one side of the body.

However, Briony replied to say she didn't have the syndrome and that she was simply born with a smaller hand.

She explained that her hand didn't grow properly in the womb, and her mum wasn't given a diagnosis when she was born.

Chatting to her followers, Briony wrote: "No I don't have Poland's Syndrome,"

"It was just a birth defect... (I'm) flying the little hand flag."

Briony also explained in another tweet: "They never really gave my mum a diagnosis when I was born.

"Just that it [her hand] didn't grow properly in the womb. Really appreciate the support, thank you."

The stay-at-home mum has made it through to the quarter finals next week after impressing with her showstoppers and bakes in Danish week, along with Rahul, Kim-Joy and Ruby.

The Great British Bake Off star previously convinced fans she was in the final with a snap of her new tattoos.

The 33-year-old unveiled three brand new tats consisting of a kitchen whisker, a piping bag and a rolling pin, paying homage to her time on the baking programme.

"My cheeky little Bake Off tattoo I got a week ago now," she told her followers. "I got it because GBBO was just the most incredible, wonderful, glorious experience and I wanted something fun to represent that.

Fans of the baker rushed to the comment section to compliment the new tattoos, but some were convinced it was a subtle nod that she'd earned a place in final.

One excited fan commented: "Ahhhh it's so lovely, is this a hint at your amazing baking journey... to the finals possibly hmmm well well we shall see, so much love [sic]."

"This is just the most adorable thing," another added.

Great British Bake Off continues on Channel 4 next Tuesday at 8pm.
