The Great British Bake Off kicked-off last night (Tuesday, 27 August) with a bang as 13 new contestants entered the white tent in the hope to be crowned the 2019 champion.

Despite it only being the first episode, one baker, Jamie Finn, has already emerged as the people's champion as he won over viewers with his quick one-liners and generally relatable behaviour amid baking chaos.

The 20-year-old, who hails from Surrey, has a strong start with his signature fruit cake but that was about it as his day went downhill quickly when his attempts to make Angel Cakes during the technical challenge went severely wrong.

Although trying to right his wrongs twice, the bakes were a flop, with him branding them "rubber" and comically admitting he prefers the "cheap 50p" offerings in the supermarket to making them himself.

And while his baking began to go awry, that didn't stop him from taking it in his stride when Prue branded his six cakes as "pretty awful" to which he quickly replied: "Thank you" leaving the tent in stitches.

When you thought things couldn't go any worse for him, Jamie came back to the tent the following day to tackle his Show-Stopper and it seemed his bad luck followed when he hilariously realised he had forgot to put eggs into his batter, which set him back another 20 minutes.

The pressure proved all a little too much for the baker's voice as he presented the cake to the judges and his voice cracked.

While Paul asked Jamie, "How old are you?", host Sandi came in and said, "Is your voice breaking?", leaving Jamie to once again crack a funny when he hilariously answered back: "Finally".

Believing he was on the chopping block, Jamie had viewers on his side as he began to tear up on camera and admitted he didn't wanted to be seen on-screen with tears in his eyes.

Yet, it appeared to be Jamie's day as baker Dan was eliminated after his signature and technical failed to impress Paul and Prue.

Safe for another week, Jamie laughed: "I'm looking to coming back, starting again and convincing people I can bake."

His appearance has Bake Off fans in agreement that he must be protected at all costs and they took to Twitter to share their opinions.

One penned: "I don't want to be filmed with tears in my eyes'Jamie is TOO pure #GBBO".

"Jamie needs protecting at all costs #GBBO," a second wrote. "Prue: 'These are awful. Jamie: 'Thank you' :joy: #GBBO".

A third shared: "The whole of the UK when Jamie forgot to put eggs in his cake ".

"Jamie made a dog cake and his voice just broke on national tele GIVE THIS MAN THE WORLD ," another posted.

While another lamented what the whole country was thinking: "Jamie on bake off could honestly sh*t on a baking tray n serve it n I'd still think he should win. He's sooo peng wow".

And with that, we believe in you Jamie!
