For eight years we've waited for a Gossip Girl reboot and now, it seems we're one step closer.

It's been confirmed that the long-awaited series will start production in New York in October - which means it should be hitting our screens in 2021. Yaaass!

Variety reports that according to a Warner Bros. spokesperson, shooting for the reboot will begin at the end of next month. It's also reported the crew will be filming in Vancouver and Los Angeles, too.

Although the series will feature a new cast - aside from Kristen Bell who will continue as narrator - the 10-part reboot will explore how the new era of social media has transformed the world of Gossip Girl.

Like in the original, it'll follow a group of elite, private school educated teens, but this time they'll be played by newcomers Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Adam Chanler-Berat, Thomas Doherty, Jonathan Fernandez, Tavi Gevinson, Jason Gotay, Emily Alyn Lind, Zión Moreno and Whitney Peak.

Although the cast will be new, original creators Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will return as executive producers, as well as Leslie Morgenstein and Joshua Safran - so you can bet we're in good hands.

This weekend, Joshua Safran took to his Twitter to answer fans' questions about the reboot - and if we weren't already mega excited, we certainly are now.

When it came to the biggest differences between the original and the reboot, Joshua pointed out: "The majority of characters being diverse and/or queer."

And when one fan asked whether Covid had impacted the script, Joshua explained: "Yes. We had to make a decision about whether Covid exists in our world or doesn't, and if it does, when - then, now, soon? That required changes."

One fan asked the question on everyone's minds - will any of the old cast be reappearing in the reboot - and Joshua gave a rather interesting reply.

"As the show takes place in the same universe as the original, I hope at some point people might drop by," he said.

"And as this version is set in 2021, 4 years after the end of the original's flash-forward, there will be mentions here and there as those people are still around!"

Well that sounds very promising! We're so excited for this one... xoxo.
