A post on the Gossip Girl Twitter and Instagram accounts features a slideshow of pictures and BTS footage of the cast members on set. "Good afternoon, followers," the tweet reads. "I need no introduction, but these New York elite do.

"Pleased to present your newest obsession - coming to @hbomax this July. Clear your calendars accordingly."

Since the original show ended in 2012, dozens of social media apps have become the norm. Never the one to miss out on where the all the buzz is, Gossip Girl also has an official TikTok account - how very Gen-Z of her.

According to the reboot's official description, viewers will see how much social media and New York has changed through the eyes of private-schoolers.

One of the new cast members, Evan Mock, who will play Akeno Menzies, described the reboot as "blunt" and "woke" in an interview with Vanity Fair. He said: "Blair was a white girl boss who had these little minions, and they're people of colour, Asian."

Evan also admitted that he hadn't seen the original show until the first two episodes of the reboot were shot.
