Emily In Paris has been nominated for a Golden Globe.

Netflix's frivolous rom-com series, which has horrified and delighted viewers in equal measure, is nominated for Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy category, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced on Wednesday.

It's up against Schitt's Creek and The Flight Attendant, among others, but it's fair to say not everyone was on board with the news.

"Emily in Paris?! Lol. There were so many more shows better than that," tweeted one person, while another added: "Lol this is embarrassing."

Despite being widely panned by critics, the Lily Collins blockbuster drew in millions and proved so successful it has already been renewed for a second season.

The news, back in November, was accompanied by a fictional letter that was circulated on Twitter.

Written from Emily's Parisian boss Paris Sylvie Grateau (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) to her American boss Madeline Wheeler (Kate Walsh), it read:

"We are writing to regrettably inform you that Emily Cooper will need to remain in Paris for an extended period of time".

Even before season 2 was officially confirmed, the show's creator Darren Star has already dropped some hints of what he'd like the second instalment to be about.

For those who haven't watched it yet, Emily in Paris follows Emily Cooper (Collins), a young marketing exec from Chicago who moves the French capital for an exciting job opportunity when her company acquires a French luxury marketing firm.

Confronted with the bright lights of the city and all its sparkling, romantic splendour, the 20-something (who doesn't speak a word of French) faces a culture clash and has to learn to adapt to her new life - and fast.

Tasked with revamping the company's social media strategy, Emily struggles to prove herself at work , all while dealing with the complicated issue of a love triangle involving her new friend Camille and hunky French chef (and her neighbour), Gabriel.

Speaking to Oprah Magazine, Star - who is also behind hit HBO show Sex and the City - revealed: "In season 2, she's going to be more of a part of the fabric of the world she's living in. She'll be more of a resident of the city.

"She'll have her feet on the ground a little more. She's making a life there."

Star - who also penned 90210 - also addressed the major cliffhanger that season 1 ended on while speaking to TV Line.

With Gabriel and Camille's relationship on the cusp of a breakup after the chef decides to move to Normandy to open a restaurant, Emily and Gabriel spend his final night in the city together.

It's only the next day that Gabriel reveals he is staying after winning investment - which is good news for Emily, but makes things all the more complicated with the issue of the love triangle. Will Gabriel and Camille stay together now? What does it mean for Emily's relationship with the chef? And her friendship with Camille?

While Star didn't give to much away, he told the outlet: "Nothing is sort of exactly as it seems to [Emily] and I think a lot of her ideas about life are constantly tested. And they will be next season, as well."

He went on: "What happens in the next chapter, I think, can be a real exploration of how does the relationship between these three characters evolve.

"That, to me, is such a fun thing to explore in Season 2, because these are not Americans. They're French people. To me, a big part of the show is looking at everything through a different lens. Season 2 will open up some interesting and surprising relationship avenues."

We cannot wait.
