Raunchy new BBC drama Gold Digger is being dubbed a mix of Dirty John and Doctor Foster and we're so here for it.

The TV show is all about wealthy 60-year-old Julia Day (Julia Ormond) and her relationship with Benjamin Greene (Benjamin Barnes) who is almost half her age - and it has received high praise on social media by TV viewers.

Twitter goers are saying it has the drama of Doctor Foster which sees Dr Gemma (Suranne Jones) investigate her cheating husband and the suspense and tense scenes that are delivered in Dirty John - which too sees a highly suspicious family who question whether their mums new man is really genuine or after her money.

One said: "Gold digger on bbc is like dr foster and dirty John mixed together and I'm obsessed".

Another added: "Whoo yeah! #Golddigger is the kind of Dr Foster-esque trash I need right now. Lovely stuff."

A third said: "BBC's Gold Digger, the shocking drama busting taboos about older women and sex, is going to be your new obsession".

Dirty John was a hit Netflix TV show that was based on the true story of John Meehan and Debra Newell. (

A fourth added: "Yes, #Golddigger on BBC1 is right up my street. Could it be this year's Doctor Foster/Bodyguard?"

Finally someone said: "There's a new drama called Gold Digger at 9. Looks good in a The Replacement / Dr Foster vein," said another."

We definitely see where they're coming from, especially with Benjamin revelling so far in the family's discomfort over his relationship with their mother.

So is he a shady character? Or is there more to this TV show than meets the eye? We're excited to find out.

Gold Digger continues on BBC One on Tuesday 19th November, or you can binge it all on iPlayer now.

We know which option we'll be choosing.
