The year is 1990; Madonna's Vogue blasted on stereos, people considered overalls with one strap as fashion and Cheers was the TV show everyone was talking about.

And Netflix has revisited the year that gave us Freeze Pops, by finally filling the Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore-sized hole in our hearts with their new movie addition Ghost.

The emotional plot and all it's clay moulding tomfoolery caused hysteria among cinema-goers 29 years ago, earning the film nearly $506 million at the box office and shot the movie's theme song Unchained Melody to number one in the UK charts for four weeks.

Starring Swayze, Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, and Tony Goldwyn, the timeless tear-jerker, which was the highest-grossing film of 1990, follows Sam Wheat and Molly Jensen, a couple who are madly in love with one another until tragedy strikes.

Their romance is short-lived when banker Sam is attacked by a mugger who shoots him in a scuffle before stealing his wallet, leaving him to die.

Now in limbo, Sam sees Molly crying over his body and discovers he is now a ghost, invisible and unable to interact with the mortal world.

Unable to tell Molly, a potter, that her life is in danger, Sam's spirit takes help of a psychic Oda Mae Brown to warn her of impending danger.

The film earned five Oscar nominations - with Whoopi winning Best Supporting Actress and the movie earning Best Original Screenplay with Bruce Joel Rubin.

And now we can relive the film's highlights again and again after the streaming service added it to their roster of romantic flicks.

In a whirlwind of festive flicks, Ghost could be the film to mix-up your Christmas film marathons and give you the right amount of nostalgia you need this Holiday season.

Nothing short of a cinematic phenomenon.
