Rob Brydon has teased the future of Gavin & Stacey when quizzed on ITV's Lorraine.

One thing we've learnt by now is that the stars of the hit BBC sitcom love to keep us on our toes when it comes to whether we'll ever seen another episode again.

And comedian Rob Brydon has stuck true to form, remaining rather coy when quizzed by Lorraine on a potential new series, following the Christmas special cliffhanger.

"I don't know what's going to happen. Whatever I say about this, I get into trouble!" he said.

"If I say I don't want to do anymore, I look like a killjoy. If I say 'I think they should do some more' it's as if I'm teasing there being another. I honestly don't know, I'd love it if they did."

You hear that James Cordon and Ruth Jones? He'd love if you brought the show back...

Later in the interview, Rob also reflected on his first meeting with co-star and friend, Ruth, explaining: "I first got into musical theatre at school in the late 70s, early 80s which is where I met Ruth Jones.

"I'd known her since I was a teenager. We were in the school musicals together."

Nessa and Uncle Bryn musical, anyone?

The 2019 Christmas special ended with a huge cliffhanger, as Nessa (Jones) proposed to Smithy (Corden).

And Rob has previously hinted that the sitcom couldn't possibly end like that, adding that we might get "one more" episode, wrapping things up, if we're lucky.

Speaking during his podcast, 'Brydon &', the actor told guest Sheridan Smith: "I think they might do one more special because they left it hanging, didn't they, with the proposal?

"So it would seem strange if they didn't. But they should crack on if they are going to do it."

Sheridan - who has appeared as Ruth 'Rudi' Smith in the comedy show - replied: "They created this masterpiece sort of one-off Christmas special. Now everyone's asking for more, aren't they?

"What a cast and everyone was so lovely; the crew, everyone, was brilliant on that job. They wrote it so well and so to just be a small part of it was an honour."

While there has been no official confirmation of another special, James Corden has previously said he "hopes so much" that the sitcom will return, while speaking to Metro.co.uk.

Given that he's the creator, we think that's a pretty good sign...

The the Late Late Show host added, though, that if the show did make a comeback for another special, it "will really be the last, final part". Sob.

Gavin and Stacey ran from 2007 until 2010. And 2019's festive edition of the sitcom broke records, being the BBC's most-viewed non-sporting event in over a decade and the most-watched comedy programme in 17 years, after drawing a staggering 18.49 million on Christmas Day.

Let's hope James and Ruth eventually give us what we want!
