Gavin and Stacey fans rejoice, you might finally find out what happened to Bryn and Jason on their mysterious fishing trip, as well as potentially other long-running show jokes in the Christmas special.

Star Joanna Page who plays Stacey Shipman in the much-loved comedic TV show, has let slip that the episode which is set to air on Christmas Day, might just reveal the mystery behind it.

The 42-year-old appeared on today's This Morning to discuss the upcoming episode and Ruth Langsford asked her: "Will we find out what happened on the fishing trip?"

And she replied: "Well... you'll just have to wait and see but there's lots of old things and lots of exciting new things as well.

"It's sort everything you wanted and you love about it and lots of new and interesting things as well."

"But I'd tune in because there might just be a little conversation about the fishing trip."

About time too, given that the BBC comedy was last seen on TV back in 2010 having run for three years.

Fans will know that there was a mysterious incident that occurred on Bryn and Jason's fishing trip and it threatened to split up the West family.

All the clues watchers were given over the years though, were that they were on their knees and did it because it was cold. They also added it was legal in the UK and defied the laws of gravity.

Sounds...interesting.

The show will of course not only pick that story back up, but is set to show Gavin and Stacey with a nine-year-old child, Joanna told Ruth.

"I think people watching will know what we're going through... you're exhausted you're tired, they've got less money that before, they're very very busy and so that affects your life together," she added.

The trailer which dropped a few weeks ago also showed Smithy (played by Corden) arriving at Gavin's house (Matthew Horne), where he launches into 'Step Into Christmas' in true Smithy style. Mick (Larry Lamb) and Pam (Alison Steadman) join in and have a little dance along.

The clip then treats fans with some classic catchphrases from the show - Ness (Ruth Jones) asks "what's occurrin'?" in a pub scene and Pam shouts "what a palaver!" around the Christmas table - while it's jam-packed with all the stuff we love about the sitcom, from Uncle Bryn getting majorly stressed, to some jolly pub scenes with the fam.

While currently the show is only confirmed for this one off episode, writer Ruth Jones has hinted there might be more to come.

Speaking to Red Magazine, she said: "I think it would be churlish of me to say there won't be any more. The honest truth is there are no plans, but I don't think I could ever say never."

We can only but hope.

Gavin & Stacey will air on BBC One on Christmas Day at 8.30pm.
