Game Of Thrones Fans Will Love Netflix's Latest Series
La Catedral Del Mar (or The Cathedral Of The Sea) landed on Netflix on Saturday and it is already set to be Game Of Thrones fans' new favourite series.
The show follows a peasant in 14th Century Barcelona called Arnau Estanyol, who is put to work building a large Catholic church, Santa María de la Mar.
The series shows Arnau growing up as he becomes caught in the midst of the Spanish Inquisition and classist struggles.
The series La Catedral del Mar is based on a 2006 book by Ildefonso Falcones, which took him five years to write.
In a translated interview with the Spanish paper El País, the show's director, Jordi Frades, said their show is a very faithful adaptation of the book.
He said: "The novel is very cinematographic, and because when you do The Cathedral of the Sea, you have to leave the egos aside because you are telling a thing that people have read."
When the series was first aired in Spain in May 2018, 3,859,000 people tuned in to watch the premiere.
Game Of Thrones fans will need a new series to get them through the winter as it was rumoured that the new series could be coming a lot later than we thought.
Earlier this year it was speculated we'd be reunited with Jon Snow in April 2019 but a representative from HBO told the Huffington Post that an air date hasn't actually been announced, so it could be an even longer wait.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour, HBO President Casey Bloys said the show will air in the first half of 2019, but no official date has been confirmed.
This means the show will qualify for the Emmy Awards in 2019 and after their 22 nominations at the 2018 awards this seems likely as a series must air between 1st June 2018, and 31st May 2019 to qualify.
So, if HBO wanted the final season of Game Of Thrones to be considered in the next Emmys, it would have to air before the end of May.
The final episode of Season 7 aired on 27th August 2017, meaning fans have been left without a new episode for a whole year.
