'Forensics: The Real CSI' Is A Must-Watch For All True-Crime Fans
The first episode of the three-part programme aired last Wednesday, and the series looks at how the CSI solves crimes through the use of cutting-edge forensics and new technology in real cases.
As per the official BBC synopsis: "Multiple cameras follow serious crime investigations in real time, revealing the crucial role cutting-edge forensic science now plays in bringing criminals to justice."
Titled 'Harvest', the first episode saw the crime scene investigators trying to identify a gunman who left evidence at a shooting scene in a quiet housing estate in Newcastle.
"One of the residents is injured, but neither she nor her boyfriend saw anything. With the neighbours too scared to talk, it is the job of crime scene manager Alan Sayers to gather the vital pieces of forensic evidence which could catch the shooter," further explains the episode's description.
The officers stress how important it is to "harvest" evidence, which could lead to the capture of the criminal.
Authorities must also attempt to determine the cause of death of a body found under suspicious circumstance on the other side of the city later in the episode.
Next week's instalment, which will air this Wednesday at 9pm on BBC Two, is called 'Mixed Profiles', and sees a rookie CSI "tasked with finding evidence from a violent stabbing and forensic scientists work together to identify two rape suspects and DNA-link them to the crime".
The following week's fix, which concludes the series, is called 'Every Contact Leaves a Trace', and follows the case of a teenage girl who is raped in a park. Digital and traditional forensics must work together to attempt to solve the harrowing case.
Each episode is an hour long, and the first was raved about on social media.
