Bridgerton fans are calling for Regé-Jean Page (aka Simon, Duke of Hastings) to be the next James Bond - and we back this 100 per cent.

If it means we get to see more of the 31-year-old actor on our screens then we'll happily start a petition, tbh.

Page has certainly got all the makings of a promising 007, and it seems he might think so too, after posting a short clip of his Bridgerton character, Simon walking towards the camera before raising a suggestive eyebrow.

"Regency, royalty. Shaken and stirred," he captioned the video.

Hmm, sounds a lot like 'shaken not stirred' - could this be more than just rumours?!

At present, the odds of Page becoming the next 007 stand at 20-1. Other high profile names in the running include Tom Hiddleston, Tom Hardy, James Norton and Henry Golding.

Idris Elba is currently the forerunner, however, with odds of 7-2.

But ever since Bridgerton dropped over Christmas, hundreds of fans have taken to Twitter to back Page for the role.

"If @regejean isn't the next James Bond I'm going to cry #JamesBond #regejeanpage," one tweeted.

While another said: "Ok I'm calling it: Regé-Jean Page as the new #JamesBond Because, well, just watch #Bridgerton and tell me I'm wrong. *fans self*"

"Where do I sign for @regejean to become the next 007?! #bridgertonnetflix #JamesBond," added one fan.

Another simply wrote: "Make that man the next James Bond."

All previous Bonds have been white males, but 007 fans have been increasingly calling for more diversity in the iconic role. And in recent years, fans have lobbied for a woman to be cast as Bond, with both Daniel Craig and Pierce Brosnan previously backing calls for women to audition.

However, producer Barbara Broccoli has stated that 007 will always be a man, explaining she believes "we should be creating new characters for women".

Speaking to Variety she said: "He can be of any colour, but he is male.

"I believe we should be creating new characters for women - strong female characters. I'm not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that."
